Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare is a community behavioral healthcare facility in Nassau
County. Starting Point currently has case management, care coordination, mobile response,
medication management, outpatient therapy including both adults and children, group 
therapy, marriage counseling, in-school prevention programs, community outreach 
programs, and in-jail services. We provide outpatient counseling for all substance use 
disorders and mental health disorders. MSW Interns will have the ability to work with 
multiple populations including military, law enforcement, LGBTQ+, at-risk youth, individuals 
who are currently or chronically homeless, individuals in crisis, minorities, individuals of all 
ages, individuals involved in the legal system, individuals who have been recently 
incarcerated, and individuals transitioning to life outside of a state hospital. MSW interns will 
begin their internship by completing various training opportunities via online trainings and
shadowing clinicians during assessments, individual therapy, group therapy, and treatment 
planning. MSW Interns will be expected to help co-facilitate or run their own group therapy, 
have a small caseload of individuals they will see in individual, couples, or family
counseling. MSW Interns will have the opportunity to shadow crisis interventions within the
community and work in an agency which provides mental health, substance abuse, care
coordination, case management, PSR, and prevention services. MSW Intern may be 
assigned to a school to engage in prevention counseling or have a day at our PSR location. 
MSW Intern will be assigned to complete assessments and urinalysis for our individuals 
served. MSW Interns will be expected to documentation information into the agency EMR 
including: individual notes, group notes, urinalysis collection, treatment planning, 
discharges, contact notes, referrals, feedbacks, state documents, and assessments.

The Agency is accepting MSW 1st year, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Clinical Students, Part-time MSW.
MSW Interns will need their own transportation to get to and from our agency as we are not 
near any bus depots. MSW Interns may be assigned to a different location, for example 
completing prevention services in the school or assisting at one of our other locations. MSW 
Interns will be supplied with a $25 stipend each week. Travel is reimbursed if the intern is 
driving for agency purposes. MSW Interns will not need to have liability insurance as this is 
provided by the agency. MSW Inters may be allowed to record services via video or audio 
recording if the individual served has agreed and signed a consent form for this recording. 
Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 
pm. MSW Interns may be asked to work later hours depending on group therapy sessions 
they may be assigned to
