DOVE Vocational Academy serves female juveniles who have been committed by the court to residential treatment. They range in age from 15-18 years old. The length of stay ranges from 3-9 months typically. Residents receive substance and mental health counseling as applicable within therapeutic community using a cognitive behavioral model. Services are offered daily are typically during business hours and into the late afternoon. The primary roles of the social work intern can range depending on individualized learning needs and interests, but typically involves helping clients to build academic and vocational skills, deliver, counselor and/or case manager assistance, group and individual counseling, and to work as a part of client treatment team to help improve functioning and transition back into the community.
Special Information
BSW and MSW 1st and 2nd year/Advanced standing;clinical. Full time and part time positions program specific training required for any individuals working in a juvenile justice setting. The facility is located in a rural area and is not accessible via public transportation. Students must independently provide reliable transportation. Program hours of operation are 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The mental health services are primarily conducted on weekday afternoons into evenings, and on weekends during morning to afternoon hours. Travel may be required to Madison county for Field Instructor supervision on a weekly basis.
