Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) operates Florida’s largest 211 Crisis Contact Center, providing blended Information & Referral and Crisis Contact Center where people seeking assistance in times of need are connected to local community resources by simply dialing 211. Information and support are easily accessible 24/7 through dialing 2-1-1 and also by email, chat, text, and online database.
HFUW 211 addresses critical needs and connects individuals and families with highly trained 211 Specialists who engage individuals to understand what underlying issues there may be and connects them with applicable resources to address emergency needs and/or long-term assistance.
In Florida, HFUW 211 provides services to 14 counties and answered over 225,000 contacts in 2021. Nationally, HFUW 211 is one of only two contracted centers for the
National Disaster Distress Helpline text line and is a contracted crisis center for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) network.

Intern job description:
211 Interns help community members navigate the complex social service landscape and link them to resources to meet their needs.
211 Interns are trained in crisis de-escalation and suicide prevention skills in order to assess and best serve individuals actively in crisis.
A typical day for a 211 Intern will include, answering inbound crisis and social service referral contacts via phone and providing individuals with crisis de-escalation, problem solving, brief assessment and appropriate social service referrals.
All client and resource information will be recorded accurately in the appropriate contact center database.
A 211 Supervisor is available 24/7 to provide immediate support to Interns on a daily basis and formal Social Work supervision meetings are held weekly.

Accepting BSW and MSW 1st-year students. Full- and part-time positions available.
Remote work. Secure internet connection and private workspace required. Laptop and headset provided by agency.
Agency hours: 24/7. Weekend and evening hours available.
