Duval County Public Schools provides educational services to students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade. The age of students may range from 3-21 depending on the services each student requires. The role of the school social worker with the homeless education department would be to eliminate or reduce the barriers for educational learning to our students that are in homeless situations.  We comply with the Federal law of the McKinney-Vento Act. Our role is to assist with enrollment issues, assist with transportation, provide training to school staff and community partners, provide grade appropriate school supplies, refer for free breakfast/lunch, assist with educational fees, assess clothing needs, assist students and parents with referrals and resources available throughout the community. Monitor students grades and attendance. School social workers will assess the need for tutoring and provide assistance, if funding is available. We provide referrals to eliminate the achievement gap and academically prepare our students to reach their dreams and learn at grade level.

Special Placement Information:

Agency is accepting MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Students, Full-time, The student will need to provide their own transportation. Duval County Public Schools does not currently provide travel reimbursements or stipends to student interns. The hours of from 8:00am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday with the exception of school holidays. At this time, there are no weekend or evening hours available. The agency is accessible by bus; however, a personal vehicle is encouraged. We do not allow video or audio taping of our families unless written permission is given the appropriate authority. We follow the
HIPPA guidelines.
