Camden County Department of Family and Children Services is divided into two different units.  The Office of Family Independence is responsible for working with families to determine eligibility for Food Stamps, TANF and MCD.  The main population served by the unit is low-income families of all race and ethnic backgrounds.  The other unit, Social Services, is primarily responsible for the overall protection of children and working with families to identify risk and safety factors.  The unit is divided up into Child Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoptions.  This unit is also responsible for the recruitment and training of foster and adoptive families.  Families served in this unit are identified by reports of child abuse and neglect and are assessed using a Safety and Risk Assessment tool.  Both units are collaborative partners with other professionals in the community serving many of the same families.

BSW Full time only.  Students must possess a valid driver's license and insurance.  The agencies hours are Monday thru Friday 8 am until 5 pm.  The Department also handles on-call child protection emergencies and the intern may have the opportunity to shadow a worker who is handling an after-hours call.  Primary responsibilities but not limited to are: accompany case manager on home visits and meetings, court observation, review documentation in the computer database, review of policy and procedures, perform general intake duties, attend case staffings and perform home visits.
