Florida State University’s College of Social Work is gearing up to launch a part-time, online Traditional Master of Social Work program in spring 2015 that will be available to people not only with a Bachelor of Social Work degree but also bachelor’s degrees in other fields.

Students will benefit from the new program’s flexibility, according to Craig Stanley, director of the college’s Master of Social Work program.

“There are many highly qualified prospective students in Florida who would like to earn the Master of Social Work degree, but do not have the ability to pick up and move to a campus-based program,” Stanley said. “Many times, these individuals are working professionals with families who wish to move forward with their education and their careers. The online Traditional Master of Social Work program will provide these folks with an opportunity to achieve the degree from a high-quality program while maintaining their other responsibilities.”

The application deadline is Oct. 1, 2014. The program will begin with the spring 2015 semester.

Similar to the college’s part-time, online Advanced Standing program, students in the Traditional program who reside in an area served by the program will be able to complete the majority of their coursework from home. Field placements also will be facilitated in the student’s area of residence.

Two of the foundational courses will require two intensive weekends during which students will report to a physical site close to home to participate in clinical skills-building activities.

The program will take nine semesters to complete.
