Welcome to the newest group of student leaders for the FSU Student Association of Social Workers (SASW). SASW has a lot planned for the fall 2020 semester, including an informational meeting in early September. As a registered student organization, SASW also has planned professional events including a grad school panel, along with volunteer events and social events (Netflix parties & zoom socials). Margarita AmadO-Blanco

Margarita plans to continue her social work education in order to earn an MSW degree and to obtain licensure as a licensed clinical social worker. She would like to counsel women who have been impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. “I chose social work because I think it is a profession that aligns with my values in life. This professional allows me to give a helping hand to those who need it. I also wanted t a job where no day is the same, and I know I will find that in social work.”

Kanisha Scott

Kanisha would like to explore the diversity of the social work field throughout her career through work with non-profit organizations, community development and organizing, and working in mental and behavioral health care. “I chose social work because I was called to do so. Empowerment fuels me and I wanted the satisfaction of knowing the work I was doing is making an impact in people’s lives.”

Grace Berg

Grace is pursuing the Child Welfare Practice Certificate at the College of Social Work with the intention to work in the area of adoption or with teens aging out of the foster care system. “I chose social work because it fits my passion of service work into a professional setting and allows me to make a difference in the world.”

Perscilla Roberts

Perscilla intends to pursue her MSW degree after completion of her undergraduate degree with a plan to pursue a career in medical social work. “I want to empower, advocate and challenge stereotypes. I also want to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of individuals who are disadvantaged.”

Kristin Kelly

SASW Community Outreach Chair and MSW Student

Kristin hopes to work in community mental health, particularly in an in-patient, crisis-intervention unit. “I chose social work after working in the community mental health field for 2.5 years and seeing how desperately community mental health is needed and to help improve the field of community mental health.”
 

Monica Flowers

SASW Social Events Chair and MSW Student
Miami, FL
Monica plans to pursue her social work licensure after completion of her MSW degree as well as a doctoral degree in social work. She wishes to impact her local community and change the stigma surrounding mental health. “I’ve always wanted to give others a chance at life. Not everyone has a fair starting. I want to give children a fighting chance at life to overcome barriers in impoverished and low socioeconomic communities.”

Luke Lewis

Luke hopes to work to assist formerly incarcerated individuals with reentry into their communities. He chose social work, “to help others in underprivileged circumstances and advocate for the marginalized.”
 

Carli Lucius

SASW Co-Membership Chair and BSW Student

Carli will pursue her MSW degree and social work licensure to become a children’s grief counselor. “I knew I wanted to help children who had lost a loved one like I did. My mom introduced me to social work and once I learned more about what social workers did, I knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”

Sarah Vernon

Sarah hopes to pursue dual master’s degree in social work and public administration with plans to pursue a career in macro social work working for a non-profit or government agency. “I chose social work because I have been surrounded by social workers my entire life who have supported and inspired me. I saw how hard they worked to empower others and make the world a more equitable place, and I wanted to do the same.”
