FSU’s Great Give Project Boosts International Social Work Opportunities for Students

During the 14th annual FSU’s Great Give on March 5th, the College of Social Work raised more than $23,500, including over $16,800 dedicated to International Program scholarships for social work students.
The 92 generous donors and their contributions were further boosted by a $5,000 dollar-for-dollar donation match provided by College of Social Work alumni and supporters John and Meg Paschal.
“We are always in awe of the impact of our donors and supporters, but FSU’s Great Give shows us what we can accomplish when we work together toward a common goal,” said David Springer, dean of the College of Social Work. “Our project this year gives a chance for so many deserving social work students to broaden their understanding of the world around them and how to create change globally.”
Overall, FSU’s Great Give raised more than $2.2 million across all university projects in 24 hours, surpassing the original $1.35 million goal and funds raised in 2024. The annual fundraiser represents an important time for alumni and other individuals to support a variety of university initiatives, scholarships and activities. The funds raised to support more than 100 projects from a mixture of 30 FSU colleges and units.
The College of Social Work project makes accessible several opportunities for International Program experiences for social work students. The college offers field placement experiences in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada, along with an Alternative Spring Break program in Grenada in the East Caribbean and an exchange program with Jönköping University in Sweden.
“We are thankful for the FSU alumni, parents, friends and fans who support FSU’s Great Give year after year,” said Sarishni Patel, assistant vice president of Advancement and Annual Giving. “We appreciate everyone who invested in what they truly care about at Florida State during the 2025 FSU’s Great Give. Because of them, we more than doubled our philanthropic goal this year.”
Social work students gain invaluable experience of social work practices in international settings along with immersive cultural experiences. These opportunities are provided almost year-round.
