Atira is a not-for-profit organization committed to the work of ending violence against women and children.  We provide direct service, as well as work to increase awareness about the scope and impact on our communities of men's violence against women and children.  We provide housing and shelter programs, homeless prevention programs, outreach to aboriginal women affected by violence, legal advocacy and counseling among other services.  Atira is accessible to anyone who identifies and lives full time as a woman and who experiences gender violence, including trans, two spirit, and intersex women.

Special Placement Information:

(See Dr. Neil Abell - International Programs) BSW and MSW 1st Year and 2ndYear/Advanced Standing (Social Leadership) Students. Full time positions only.  We only accept self-identified women to carry out their practicums at Atira.  The student will have to cover all of her own expenses, including travel, accommodations, and insurance.  The student will be covered under Atira's liability policy for any Third-Party Injury or Damage they cause.  Working hours will depend on the placement; student can expect to work outside the usual 9:00am-5:00pm-time frame.  All housing programs are accessible by public transit.  Videotaping is not permitted. Audio taping is permitted with consent of women.  Students must agree with working within a feminist, harm reduction and anit-oppressive framework.  A basic understanding of Aboriginal history in Canada is desired.
