In-home services are family and individual counseling services for families who volunteer to accept these services that are at risk of having their children removed due to problems related to abuse or neglect. Services may also be provided to families whose children have been removed and placed in a foster care home or a child care institution and to the parents or primary caregiver of such a child, in order to facilitate the reunification of the child and family safely and appropriately. All of the families served are involved with the Department either through the dependency system or protective services. Those served, which can be any of the following: the parent(s), caretaker(s) or any age appropriate child no younger than 8 years old and must have concerns related to any of the following reasons: family, substance abuse, mental health, anger management, self-esteem, or parenting.
All sessions are held in the home on a weekly or sometimes biweekly basis at a minimum of one hour per session. For higher risk families the frequency may increase up to three sessions per week.
Special Information
Personal transportation is not needed for placement in this program. The agency can reimburse for travel if it is related to client centered activities or trainings but not to and from the placement site. There are no stipends available to interns. Any taping of clients has to be approved by the program supervisor and clinical super visor. The program’s hours of operation are Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm. The program does not have placements with evening and weekend hours.
