Information

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind is a parent-choice, tuition-free, accredited state public school for eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired, or deafblind. FSDB serves more than 1,000 students each year with approximately 530 students on the campus. 1/3 of our students are day students and 2/3 stay in the boarding program Sunday evening through Friday afternoon.  1/3 of our students are blind and 2/3 of our students are deaf. 100% of our students have an IEP. We have a Montessori Pre-K early learning program and five schools (K-5, K-8, middle school, and two high schools) on the St. Augustine campus. Social workers work directly with students during the academic day and in the evenings as part of the boarding program. Social workers also connect with student's families to ensure the needs of students are being met. The social workers are part of the FSDB Mental Health Department working with other mental health staff, boarding program staff, transportation, administration, and other department members as necessary. Social workers working with deaf and hard-of-hearing students must be proficient in American Sign Language.
