Global Alliance Solutions Foundation (GASF) is a nonprofit with our mission “helping to rebuild disadvantaged communities, individuals, and families to become self-sufficient through empowerment, advocacy and partnership.  GASF is geared to partner with federal and state government, foundations, US Immigration Services, social serve agencies, local food banks as well as healthcare institutions.  Currently we operate the Ethnic Community Self Help Program through the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and Victims of Human Trafficking through the Department of Justice (DOJ). Our work focuses on disadvantaged individuals and communities, women’s empowerment, meeting basic needs for all clients and supporting immigrant and refugee communities.  We provide comprehensive case management services, direct services and partner with known experts providing English Language Services, Citizenship support, Legal services, Mental Health and counseling and other support services, workshops, training, and support groups as indicating with funding sources.
Intern Job Descriptions
Intern will be exposed to community work, recruitment, building resources and partnerships and working with clients on an individual basis to assess, screen, and support needs, navigate through the DSS benefits system, employment opportunities, other resources as needed. And work with community projects, events, prepare and present workshops, training and prepare reports and documentation of all services.

Special Placement Information:

Agency accepts MSW part-time.  Student will need transportation and must meet legal driving requirements in the state of Michigan. A stipend will be provided for mileage, proof of legal driving requirement must be provided.
Video & audio is limited. Working with certain religious individuals we must be respectful of their privacy. Generally working with Muslim populations, we are not able to take picture where their face is shown. We have taken from the back of the room, being respectful and ensuring permission has been given and signed document provided.
General hours are 9 to 5 but we are very flexible as our staff work mostly from home and in the field. They meet clients where they are so often evening hours. May of the activities where we recruit or provide workshops are evenings or weekends.  The office is accessible by bus. Our service area is reachable by bus. The office is out of the way and staff are expected in office twice a month and for meetings or trainings.
Covid is Not required but recommended along with any other federal, state or program specific health requirements. We encourage following CDC recommendations.
Currently in our service area refugees are generally Middle Eastern, speaking Arabic but most understand and speak English. We have staff that translate. For this assignment, student will work predominately in our Wayne County Programs and with our partner agencies in the area including the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit (This is where student will report to meet with supervisor), Islamic Center of Detroit and Alternative for Girls.
