Greene County Jail is a detention facility for those in the criminal justice system with local, county, state, or federal charges.
Inmates housed at GCJ fall into a wide range of demographics: 17+, all genders (male, female, other), multiple ethnicities - primarily Caucasian.
Inmate charges may municipal, misdemeanor, or felony.
Interns in the Mental Health Department provide services to inmates including individual therapy, group therapy (pending COVID-19 policy), respond to health service requests, and assess inmates referred by other departments/medical. Social Work interns are also responsible for providing community resources and assist with reentry planning.
Mental Health staff services: safety/observation rounds, individual therapy, pre-employment psychological evaluations, suicide prevention training for officers, etc.
Special placement information:
Accepting MSW 1st-year and MSW 2nd-year/Advanced Standing (clinical) students. Full- and part-time positions available.
Transportation to and from facility required. Intern will not be responsible for transportation of clients/inmates.
Liability insurance not required.
Video-/Audio-taping permitted with special permission only.
Agency hours: 7:00AM-3:00PM, Monday-Friday. Evening and weekend hours available with supervisor present.
Cellphones, backpacks, and purses not permitted in secure areas.
Free meals are provided to students, as well as a microwave and fridge.
