Gulfside Healthcare Services (Gulfside) is a community-based. non-profit healthcare organization providing hospice, non-hospice palliative care. and skilled home health care throughout Pasco County and the Tampa Bay area since 1989. The mission of Gulfside is to provide a specialized continuum of care aimed at keeping people in their homes. Gulfside services approximately 900-1.000 individuals daily. ages newborn to advanced age with the support of an expert interdisciplinary professional team.
The role of the Social Worker at Gulfside is to assist patients and those individuals in a patient's life to navigate complicated healthcare systems. realize progress/attainment of health/wellness goals, obtain symptom management through non-pharmacological means, assess and support individual psychosocial and mental health needs through difficult and stressful times. encourage and foster strong interpersonal connections, provide education and direction related to patient care and advance planning, engage in life review and celebrate life stories. and assist with complicated grief- loss issues through bereavement support after the death of a loved one. These are accomplished by the provision of individual and family and/or group emotional support, counseling and psychotherapy: crisis intervention; care coordination with healthcare services professionals; support and education around infirmity. illness, and end-of-life; education, information, and connection with community services and resources; and assistance in placement outside of the home when care becomes such that it can no longer be provided at home. The discipline of Social Work is an integral and important part in the care of patients/clients and their support systems all along the continuum of care offered by GHS and makes an overall positive impact on an individual well- being, and physical and mental and emotional health by increasing resiliency, understand, and coping around the demands of illness and associated care and beyond.
Special Placement Information
MSW 1st year, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing, (Clinical) Part-time MSW. Students must have their own transportation as in-person visits may be required between intern home/school, GHS offices, and patient homes; proof of automobile insurance and valid driver's license will be required. While stipends are not available, mileage will be reimbursed at the current rate as outlined in GHS Mileage Reimbursement Policy. Video and audio taping is permitted with written permission from patients/families and agreement with GHS staff and only as it relates to educational opportunities and maintains compliance with HIPAA requirements. While the Agency offices are not open around the clock, interns will be required to be available 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some patient visits may need to be made outside these hours and weekends in order to meet patient needs. Changes to a work schedule will be by agreement of student intern and GHS field
supervisor(s).
