Agency Description:
Polk County Jail is the largest jail in the state of Iowa, with a current population around 1000. We serve adults over the age of 18 who are serving time in jail, waiting for state and federal prison. We also serve ICE detainees. Social Workers provide initial assessments, crisis intervention, and suicide assessments.
Intern Job Description:
Assist with substance abuse education, attend restricted housing rounds and weekly hearings, complete initial mental health assessments, assist with answering inmate requests, shadow staff conducting suicide watch assessments.
Special Information:
This agency accepts full and part time MSW 1st Year and MSW 2nd Year/Advanced Standing (clinical) students. Students will need their own transportation or there is a public bus. No reimbursement or compensation provided, no video or taping permitted, no cell phones. Schedule is typically days (Monday-Friday), weekends available upon request and staff availability.
