Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) in MacClenny, Florida provides psychiatric services to adults of all ages who have a major psychiatric illness and who are referred to NEFSH from
community mental health centers, having met the Baker Act Criteria. The primary role of the Social Worker is to advocate for the individuals, provide family contact, act as a core member of the
interdisciplinary team, provide group coverage and complete assessments as necessary including psychosocials, addendums, and LOCUS.
Candidates entering our program will have an opportunity to participate in training designed to initiate students to the hospital as well as to educate students regarding safety issues on campus. Additionally, the Field Instructor will provide one to one supervision in our living areas. The interns will have an opportunity to work closely with staff in a multi-disciplinary fashion and
with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression. Typically interns will attend treatment teams, provide crisis intervention and 1:1 Counseling with selected
individuals, as well as gain experience completing psychosocial evaluations and assessment. Interns will experience therapeutic groups and activities and have an opportunity to facilitate
selected groups. Interns will learn the culture of the hospital and have opportunities to attend staff and department meetings. Supervision is available on a daily basis or as needed and
interns are encouraged to explore their knowledge base and practice skills in order to develop a style that is best suited for the student and population they are working with.

Accepting BSW, MSW 1st and 2nd-year (clinical) students. Full-time and part-time positions available.
The student will need transportation to MacClenny, which is approximately 25 miles west of Jacksonville. Travel is not reimbursed and there is no stipend available. Audio taping may be permitted with a release of information signed by the competent individual. Northeast Florida State Hospital is opened 24 hours per day, however interns would only be allowed during Social Work hours which can vary from 7:30am-5:15pm. Weekend and evening hours are not permitted. The agency is not available by bus. The student must complete a week and a half long training when starting, however these hours often can go toward the internship. After the training, the hours can be flexible depending on the students needs.
