The mission of the Oneida County Department of Family and Community Services is to provide for financial and social services to eligible resident of Oneida County in accordance with federal, state and county laws.  These services shall be provided in a manner that reflect respect for each individual and concern for enhancing family functioning, reducing dependency, and maintaining children and adults in the community where possible the agency services clients from infancy through older adulthood.  There are multiple divisions within the department.  The agency provides benefits such as Temporary Assistance, Medicaid and Heat Assistance.  Childcare subsidies, Child Support Enforcement, and Child Welfare Services are also provided through the office, Jennifer will be interning in Adult Protective Services.  Adult Protective Services are provided to individuals, over the age of 18 years, who are at risk of harm either because of their on inability to protect themselves; or due to the abuse or exploitation by others,  Eligibility criteria includes: an adulty with a diminished capacity for self-care, who is at risk of harm or has unmet essential needs, and no on else is willing and/or able to assist them.  The agency currently has a social worker on staff who conducts various assessments, assists with community linkages, assesses crisis situations, coordinates the Safe Harbor Initiative and overall supports the Department’s mission.

Special Placement Information

The plan is for Jennifer Catalone to intern on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30am-4:30pm.  She will be working in Adult Protective Services.  Transportation will be needed to get to the various agency offices, for field visits and to attend meetings/trainings off site.  This is an employment bases internship, so Jennifer is familiar with the agency.
