Information

Operation Jump Start is a non-profit agency that provides counseling, mentorship, and education services to low-resourced, high-potential, first generation college students.  The goal is to help students prepare to apply for, get into, and graduate from, a four-year college. MSW interns provide high school and college students with mental health counseling services, including individual and group services. Students in the program are dealing with a number of mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, suicidality, and self-harm, as well as other trauma histories, including child abuse and neglect, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and substance abuse. MSW interns also have macro-opportunities to assist with agency events, fund development, curriculum development, program development, and other tasks, if they are interested in macro work.

Special Placement Information:

The Agency is accepting MSW Full time, MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Clinical Students, (Clinical), Part-time MSW, Part-time MSW.   Interns may work a hybrid schedule of 1 day in the office and 1 day remotely each week, with any additional hours to be completed in the office. Office hours are Mon-Thurs, 9:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and Fridays 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. There are some events occasionally held on nights and weekends, but those hours are inconsistent. We prefer that students have one of their internship days be Wednesdays since group supervision is held on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., but they can attend group supervision via Zoom if they are working remotely that day. Agency is accessible by bus and also has parking if intern chooses to drive. No other transportation needed, no travel reimbursements, no stipends, no liability insurance is needed.
