Pinellas County Schools is the 23rd largest district in the nation and the seventh largest in the State of Florida.  With nearly 19,000 part-time and full-time employees, Pinellas County Schools in the largest employer in Pinellas County.  Situated in the middle of Florida’s west coast, Pinellas County is home to more than 155,000 pre-kindergarten through adult public school students.  Social workers provide a variety of services to students and staff in Pinellas County Schools.  All services are aimed at increasing the academic engagement time of students.  The social work department consists of seven teams of social workers; Teen Parent Program Team; Center Social Workers Team; Full Services School Team; and four Itinerant Services Teams, one at each area office.  Each school has trained professional masters degree level social worker assigned part of full time to offer services that include, but are not limited to the following: Counseling for students and families; group counseling; crisis response; Baker Act assessments; child abuse awareness, prevention, and reporting; Social Histories and Updates; school/staff consultation and classroom observations; staff suggested intervention and accommodations for students at risk or difficult to manage in the classroom; Behavior Rating Scales; FBA (functional behavioral assessments); discipline reviews; agency referrals for services; attendance; home visits; parent interviews to obtain psycho-social history information; and training in parenting skills, parent conferencing, cooperative discipline, conflict resolution, etc. 301 4th Street SW Largo FL 33770.

Special Information: 

MSW 1st year and 2nd year students, part time and full time students.  Students need their own transportation and are not reimbursed for any travel.  There is no stipend available.  Students are not permitted to video or audio tape at all.  There are no evening hours or weekend hours available as we work during school daytime hours, Monday-Friday.  Summer hours are available on a limited basis by special arrangement with the School Social Work Supervisor.  All students must pay for their own background check and level two fingerprinting clearance.  Any students with a criminal history or who does not pass a level 2 clearance will not be permitted to do their internship with Pinellas County Schools.
