The Office of Community Corrections (OCC) is the intermediate sanctions department of the MA Probation Department. The mission of the OCC is the establishment of intermediate sanctions, which offer a continuum of sanctions and services (treatment, drug testing, and community service) for probation, parole, sheriff’s office and the department of corrections. This interdepartmental and community collaboration supports public safety. Bay State Community Services is contracted by the OCC to provide adults involved in the criminal justice system with evidence-based interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with the goal of helping them make healthier decisions related to criminal thinking, substance use, etc. The SCCCC also offers educational and job development services and provides case management around other needs, such as housing, finances, mental health, etc.
Special Placement Information
BSW full-time, MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and advanced standing, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing Students (Social Policy and Administration) (Clinical) part-time BSW, part-time MSW. The SCCCC Is located within walking distance of public transportation, but a vehicle is occasionally needed to attend important offsite training/meetings. The SCCCC is open from 7 am to 7 pm on most days, CBT groups are mostly offered between 8 and 3 pm. On Tues/Thurs, groups are offered until 7 pm. Agency covers liability insurance. Video/audio taping is not permitted for confidentiality reasons. Any employees/intern needs to submit to a CORI and SORI background check. Professional boundaries are of utmost importance in working with these populations.
