Court Administration has a Drug Court program in both Manatee and Sarasota Counties as well as a DUI Court program in Sarasota County, serving adults (18 years +) who agree to participate in treatment court activities. Individuals who enter the court programs must agree to participate in a least one year of treatment including, but not limited to, regular court appearances, random drug screens. Individual and group therapy sessions on site, various assessments, treatment plans, etc. Each client will be staffed weekly within the Drug/DUI court offices as well as wit the entire DUI/Drug Court Interdisciplinary Team. Rewards and sanctions will be determined and imposed at each court session. All treatment court have on site counselors available to work with court clients. The role of a social work intern would be to provide help primarily in case management but also in the areas of assessments, treatments plans, facilitating groups, etc. Some court experience may be gained as well as exposure to the State Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Probation, other law enforcement agencies, etc. Depending on length of stay with the program, the student intern may carry a small caseload.
Special Information
The agency is accepting MSW 1st year students, MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing students for clinical purposes. They are offering part and full time hours. The student intern will not be required to travel to other locations once they are on site at the Treatment Court facility, so a stipend is not necessary. Both Drug Court offices are accessible by bus. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7am – 7 pm. Weekend hours will not be expected of the student intern. Students will be required to complete all confidentiality forms produced by the Court, along with giving permission for an FCIC/NCIC criminal background check to be run. Video or audio taping is only permitted with the authorization of the program director and client(s).
