Winship Cancer Institute provides outpatient cancer treatment to patients ages 8 and older. Winship is a non-profit teaching institution with partnerships with the VA and Brady Health systems (the hospital for indigent patients who reside in Fulton and Dekalb counties). Social Workers at Winship provide outpatient counseling services to patients and families affected by the diagnosis. Social Workers lead support groups, allocate community resources (transportation, medication assistance) and facilitate mental health referrals to a psychiatrist. Suicide risk assessments, hospice referrals, bio-psychosocial assessments, and survivorship choices are also facilitated by the Social Workers.
MSW 2nd year/Advanced Standing students Only. Full-time Only; Clinical. The student will need transportation to and from the agency, but travel is not required. MARTA Bus Service comes directly to the agency. Agency hours are M-F 8am-5pm. Some evenings may be required for evening support groups which are usually monthly(one night per month). There are no stipends available. The student will need liability insurance, background checks, and TB test.
