VITAS Healthcare is a hospice company providing palliative and hospice care to the residents of Lake and Sumter County.  The population serves is any patient with a terminal diagnosis and prognosis of 6 months or less, we accept all ages.  The social worker provides emotional support, assist with community resources, and assist with advance directives. Participates in the execution of the interdisciplinary place of care.  Provides psychosocial assessments and counseling to patient and their families.  Provides bereavement support to families after the death.  The social workers facilitate support groups in the community.

Special Placement Information

MSW 2nd year and Advanced Standing, (clinical) Part-time MSW.  The student will need reliable transportation in order to drive to where the patient is located.  Mileage is reimbursed at &0.47 per mile. The student will need liability insurance.  No video or audio taping is permitted around patient information due to HIPPA.  Level 1, Level 2 background check, and a 2-step PPD it is completed before starting, VISTAS Healthcare covers the cost for both.  We will need a copy of the intern’s driver’s license and car insurance.
