Voices for Florida Executive and Alumna Honored as a 2020 Notable Nole

Robyn Metcalf, Voices of Florida Open Doors Statewide Director

Robyn Metcalf, the statewide director of Voices for Florida’s Open Doors Outreach Network, has been selected as a 2020 Notable Nole by the FSU Alumni Association. The Notable Noles program recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of FSU's alumni 35 or younger who have made exceptional achievements and significant contributions to his or her profession, community/society or the university through traditional channels or innovative approaches. Metcalf is one of 18 young alumni to be recognized this year.

In 2015 Metcalf earned dual Masters of Social Work and Public Administration from FSU’s Reubin O'D. Askew School of Public Administration and Policy and the College of Social Work. "Even as a student, it was evident that Robyn would become a leader and force for change in her community,” said Jim Clark, dean and professor of the FSU College of Social Work. “At such a young age Robyn has already made major strides for Florida’s children. The College of Social Work is proud to call Robyn an alumna of our program.”

Robyn was selected as recipient of this award for her leadership and management in implementing a “network of networks” approach to serving Florida survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking through the Open Doors Outreach Network. This innovative approach has been instrumental in filling gaps, leveraging existing services, mobilizing and managing financial resources, establishing shared measurement and best practices and supporting comprehensive training, education and professional development for all Network team members.

"It has truly been my honor to work side by side with a talented and fearless social change-agent,” said Linda Alexionok president of Voice for Florida President. “Embracing FSU’s ‘unconquered’ spirit, Robyn is committed to solving difficult and complex social problems facing our children and families. With her sharp wit and capacity to learn, Robyn has quickly gained a reputation for excellence and success.”

For the past three years, the Open Doors Outreach Network has wrapped valuable cross-sector support around victims, closing service gaps, leveraging resources and driving real-time change to support better survivor and system outcomes. Since 2017 the Open Doors Outreach Network has provided trauma-competent care and treatment to over 1,000 sex trafficking survivors.

Voices for Florida

Since its founding in 1976, Voices for Florida has worked collectively with others to create the change. Voices for Florida is statewide nonprofit that creates and scales social innovation for solving complex social problems. The current complex problem Voices for Florida is addressing is the commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking of children in Florida. The innovation to address this problem is the Open Doors Outreach Network, a 24/7/365 network of care and treatment. Voices for Florida serves as the backbone organization for Open Doors and is an affiliate of The Children’s Campaign – Florida’s leading nonpartisan child advocacy organization.
