Caregiver luncheon honors Jacksonville Military Caregivers

On April 7, 2016, the Florida State University College of Social Work hosted a Military Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon in Jacksonville, Florida at Epping Forest Yacht Club to offer support to caregivers and to inform them about the services available through the Operation Family Caregiver program. The Jacksonville luncheon was the third in the Military Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon series that the College will provide throughout the state.

FSU Hosts Nobel Laureate Rigoberta Menchú Tum

Activist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Rigoberta Menchú Tum gave a public talk at 6 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Florida State University as a part of the PeaceJam Southeast Public Talk and Conference, a program coordinated by the FSU Center for Leadership & Social Change.

Building Creative Communities Through Engagement

We are so excited to share what we learned at the Building Creative Communities Conference that we would love to engage our community at FSU and share our knowledge with our fellow students! We will be facilitating a Creative Community Engagement Workshop on March 25, (UCC Miller Hall, 1-4:30pm), co-sponsored by the FSU Association for Student Social Workers, and in collaboration with FSU students from the FSU Art Therapy Program, the FSU College of Medicine and the FSU Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

Luncheon honors military caregivers in Gainesville

The Florida State University College of Social Work hosted a Military Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon Feb. 26 in Gainesville, Fla., to offer support to caregivers and to inform them about the services available through the Operation Family Caregiver program.

The Gainesville luncheon, which took place at Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grill, was the second in the Military Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon Series that the college is hosting this year throughout the state.

Social work professor named fellow of national society

Karen Randolph, a professor in the Florida State University College of Social Work, has been named a member of the 2016 class of fellows of the Society for Social Work and Research.

The distinction recognizes members of the society who have furthered its mission — to advance, disseminate and translate research that addresses issues of social work practice and policy and promotes a diverse, equitable and just society.

Doctoral candidate Leah Cheatham to join University of Alabama faculty

I am both thrilled and honored to be joining the faculty at the University of Alabama School of Social Work. I was drawn to the University of Alabama because of my interests in working within a public university with strong community ties, excellent support for research, and a strong commitment to students. The warm reception from faculty, staff, and students during my visit to Tuscaloosa sealed the deal.
