Fellowship allows doctoral student to aim for impact on research and policy in child welfare

This year, doctoral candidate Leah Cheatham received a second year of funding as a part of her Doris Duke Fellowship for the Promotion of Child Well-Being. The fellowship is awarded annually to select doctoral students across the country that are to become the next generation of leaders within the field of child welfare.

Dr. Jean Munn awarded Fulbright Fellowship to study aging in the Czech Republic

Through the Fulbright Scholar Program and a partnership with Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, Associate Professor Dr. Jean Munn will take her research in in geronotolgical and aging studies to a whole new level during the spring 2016 semester. “This opportunity is going to allow me to forge a new collaboration in the Czech Republic with people with similar research interests” Dr. Munn explained.

Annelise Mennicke wins GADE Leadership and Service Award

Annelise Mennicke is winner of the prestigious 2015 Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education (GADE) Leadership and Service Award! The GADE Student Award for Leadership and Service is given to a social work doctoral student or group of students who, through on-going or time-limited actions, activities or project(s), have shown significant leadership in service to their School, University, or professional or academic associations. Annelise received this award for her contributions to the FSU community on sexual violence prevention.

Alumna Dr. Catherine R. Gayle appointed by CSWE to Commission on Accreditation

2015 Spring Convocation celebrates the newest crop of social workers

The FSU College of Social Work held its annual Spring Convocation on May 1, 2015 for its Class of 2015 graduates at the Oglesby Union Ballroom on the FSU main campus. Alumna Connie Jenkins-Pye: One of Tallahassee Democrat’s 25 Women You Need to Know

Dr. Machelle Madsen Thompson honored with the Ralph Stair Prize in Innovative Education

Dr. Machelle Madsen Thompson, an FSU College of Social Work adjunct professor and alumna, was honored for her efforts in teaching on April 27, 2015 at the FSU Faculty Awards Dinner. Machelle received the biennial Ralph Stair Prize in Innovative Education for her inventive assignments in social work that aid students in better understanding the impact of living in poverty.
