FSU’s Great Give 2014: Social Work focuses on local youths
This year’s FSU Great Give runs from Thursday, April 17 through Friday, April 18, 2014 and the College of Social Work focuses its efforts on raising funds to sustain its annual Arts & Athletics Summer Camp! 2014 marks the third summer the camp will run on Florida State’s campus, allowing under-resourced middle school youths to experience college life.
The arts and athletics focus of the camp targets positive youth development through activities that encourages building social skills, confidence and the pursuit of higher education. Past activities have included canoeing, dance classes, beach volleyball, basketball, journal creation, individual and group poetry writing, and crafts. The youths also participate in college preparatory activities, along with a luncheon to conclude the camp at which the campers are able to show their parents and mentors what they have learned.
This camp depends entirely on the College of Social Work’s support and donations, incurring no charges on the campers or their families. Through efforts like FSU’s Great Give the College ensures that the camp is able to offer these experiences to youths that may not have these opportunities elsewhere at no charge. We hope that you will be able to help us keep the Arts & Athletics Camp running for years to come for future students. We ask that you make a donation of your choice on April 17th or 18th at http://greatgive.fsu.edu.
