FSU Student and Center Create Children’s Book to Enhance Social-Emotional Learning

Online MSW student Lara Klopp began working with the Center for the Study and Promotion for Communities, Families and Children at the FSU College of Social Work in 2021 to complete her social work field internship. One of her key assignments included working with pre-Kindergarten (pre-K) students in Brevard County, Florida, utilizing the center’s Rebound and Recovery program, a socio-emotional learning program piloted with pre-K through third-grade children.

Now, through a grant from the National Science Foundation, a multidisciplinary team of Florida State University researchers is looking to utilize a commonly underrecognized space in disaster response: public libraries.

Interdisciplinary Research Team Receives NSF Grant to Study Pandemic Impacts on Natural Disaster Shelters

Florida State University (FSU) and Florida A&M University (FAMU) received a National Science Foundation, Excellence in Research Historically Black College and University Grant of more than $500,000. The grant will allow the interdisciplinary research team to study how to better prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters that co-occur with public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FSU Center for the Study and Promotion of Communities, Families and Children (CFC Center) was awarded the 2020 Mission Partner of the Year Award by Goodwill Industries - Big Bend, Inc. The award recognizes a community partner who assists Goodwill in fulfilling its mission to support people with disabilities and exceptional needs.
