Study: Understanding Informal Support for Low-Income, Single Mothers in the US

FSU College of Social Work Associate Professor Melissa Radey was recently awarded funding by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to understand the roles of informal support among low-income families with young children in the United States. Informal support is the emotional, practical, or financial support that mothers can access from others, typically family, in times of need.

FSU Lecture Series to Discuss Substance Abuse in the Criminal Justice System

Florida State University’s Center for the Study and Promotion of Communities, Families, and Children will tackle the issue of substance abuse in the criminal justice system for the final installment of its inaugural lecture series, “Engage, Invest, Respond.”
FSU Social Work faculty member Tanya Renn will present, along with Michele Staton from the University of Kentucky Department of Behavioral Science.

FSU College of Social Work Graduate Programs Leap in U.S. News Rankings

Florida State University’s graduate programs are on the rise, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 edition of “Best Graduate Schools.”
FSU’s graduate programs in social work, public affairs and education all made significant jumps in the publication’s annual rankings, released March 12.

Florida Institute for Child Welfare Director at FSU to Join National Advisory Board

Jessica Pryce, the director of the Florida Institute for Child Welfare at Florida State University, has been appointed to the advisory board of the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute.
The board is a nationally representative panel for expert consultation that guides the development and effectiveness of child welfare professionals. Board members will serve through September 2023 and meet three times a year.
