Florida State University College of Social Work will celebrate its 2018 distinguished graduates and scholarship recipients at a celebratory dinner at the FSU Alumni Association on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018. 

The highly anticipated event each year celebrates the contributions of students, alumni and donors to the College of Social Work, social work education and profession.

College of Social Work Partners to Bring AVA Global Health Summit to FSU

The Academy on Violence and Abuse (AVA) and the Florida State University College of Social Work are teaming up to bring a global summit addressing violence treatment and prevention across the lifespan.  November 29 and 30 we will have speakers from all over the world as far as South Africa and China addressing the most recent research and practice involving those who have experienced maltreatment.

Raise the Torch: College of Social Work's Development Report

Florida State University announced the successful completion of the most ambitious fundraising campaign in university history. 

Florida State launched Raise the Torch: The Campaign for Florida State in July 2010 with a goal of raising $1 billion. FSU reached and exceeded that lofty goal with $1,158,665,865 in gifts and pledges received from donors and supporters upon the campaign’s official closing June 30, 2018.

Institute for Family Violence Studies partners on March to End the Silence

Last year in Leon County, more than 1,700 domestic violence offenses were reported, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. These were only the incidents reported to local authorities, but many more go unreported every year.

Alumna honored with Child Welfare Champion Award

At the 2018 Child Protection Summit in September, the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) honored award recipients, including this year’s Child Welfare Champion Award to FSU College of Social Work Alumna and Child Advocate Lisa Jackson.

FSU Fully Launches Student Resilience Project

FSU Social Work faculty member honored as Mixed Methods Scholar

This year, FSU College of Social Work Associate Professor Dr. Melissa Radey was among a group of scholars invited to participate in a Mixed Methods Research Training Program for the Health Sciences at John Hopkins University, the only program of its kind in the United States. The program, funded by the National Institute for Health (NIH) Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research (OBSSR), addresses a national need for training in mixed methods.

Alumna Highlight: Michelle Brantley, big heart and big dreams

Michelle Brantley dreams big and makes those dreams a reality. In 2007, her father suddenly passed away, and it caused her to re-evaluate her life and how valuable time is. She decided to honor his memory by being “true to herself,” which was some of his last words to her. Along this road, Michelle not only balanced her growth, healing, and education but a growing family. She opened her heart and home through the adoption of five siblings, including two sets of twins.
