FSU Fully Launches Student Resilience Project

After a successful soft launch earlier this summer, Florida State University fully rolled out its Student Resilience Project Sept. 26, including more interactive videos, audios and resources for all FSU students.

FSU Social Work faculty member honored as Mixed Methods Scholar

This year, FSU College of Social Work Associate Professor Dr. Melissa Radey was among a group of scholars invited to participate in a Mixed Methods Research Training Program for the Health Sciences at John Hopkins University, the only program of its kind in the United States. The program, funded by the National Institute for Health (NIH) Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research (OBSSR), addresses a national need for training in mixed methods.

Alumna Highlight: Michelle Brantley, big heart and big dreams

Michelle Brantley dreams big and makes those dreams a reality. In 2007, her father suddenly passed away, and it caused her to re-evaluate her life and how valuable time is. She decided to honor his memory by being “true to herself,” which was some of his last words to her. Along this road, Michelle not only balanced her growth, healing, and education but a growing family. She opened her heart and home through the adoption of five siblings, including two sets of twins.

Czech It Out: Prague Study Abroad Trip

Goulash, garnets, and gelato. This past summer, I had the opportunity to participate in the Prague Study Abroad trip associated with the College of Social Work. By far, the five weeks I spent in the Czech Republic (and other surrounding countries) were some of my most memorable times as a Florida State student. From making new friends, to trying new foods, to experiencing a new culture, to attending class in a foreign country, every day abroad was an adventure.

Leader in Criminal Justice Research joins FSU Social Work faculty

Experiencing Australia through an Exchange Program

“I love traveling and have always had a spirit for adventuring. In addition, I always dreamed of traveling to Australia one day,” Mary Green said when reflecting on her decision to pursue a study abroad opportunity in  Australia.

Mary described her four and half months in at Griffith University in Gold Coast, Australia as life-changing. From February through June of 2018, she experienced life as an Australian college student taking four social work courses.

Dr. Jessica Pryce Highlights Implicit Bias through Child Welfare TEDTalk

Alumnus Awarded U.S. Public Health Service Meritorious Service Medal

There are many ways to serve your country, and the career of Captain Jay A. Seligman (MSW, 1993; BA, 1990) reflects a lifetime of dedicated service to both his country and its citizens. After four years of service as a clinical social worker and an Officer with the United States Air Force, Captain Seligman knew he wanted to serve in a different capacity. He commissioned with the  United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and received an assignment with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in 1998.

Building Stronger Students: FSU launches Student Resilience Project

As Florida State University prepares to welcome more than 6,000 freshmen this fall, the university is offering a new online tool to help students adjust to campus, improve mental health, increase resilience and reduce stress.

The “Student Resilience Project” is an online, evidence-informed trauma resilience training tool developed by the Institute for Family Violence Studies at the FSU College of Social Work. The institute began to roll out the tool with a soft launch Aug. 1.
