Institute Leads St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Peer-to-Peer Training

The Florida State University Institute for Justice Research and Development (FSU IJRD) and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) partnered together recently to deliver twenty-four sheriff’s office personnel and twenty-five additional participants, peer-to-peer support training. The training addresses on-the-job, daily stress that law enforcement face and teaches them actionable steps to provide mental health and well-being support to their peers.

Alumna Dedicated to International Refugee and Human Rights

Kathryn (Katie) Gerber (MSW, 2008; MPA 2008) has always had a passion for social justice. This natural interest in providing equal access to rights and opportunities drew her to social work early on. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. Further interest in international work drew her to an opportunity to study abroad as an undergraduate to Valencia, Spain through Florida State University to gain a greater understanding of the Spanish language.

Five Social Work Students Inducted into Garnet and Gold Scholars Society

This spring, Florida State University inducted 236 undergraduate students into the Garnet and Gold Scholars Society.  Established in 2010, the society facilitates student involvement and recognizes undergraduate students who excel within and beyond the classroom in three of five areas: international experience, internship, leadership, research and service.
