Alumna Dedicated to International Refugee and Human Rights

Kathryn (Katie) Gerber (MSW, 2008; MPA 2008) has always had a passion for social justice. This natural interest in providing equal access to rights and opportunities drew her to social work early on. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. Further interest in international work drew her to an opportunity to study abroad as an undergraduate to Valencia, Spain through Florida State University to gain a greater understanding of the Spanish language.

Five Social Work Students Inducted into Garnet and Gold Scholars Society

This spring, Florida State University inducted 236 undergraduate students into the Garnet and Gold Scholars Society.  Established in 2010, the society facilitates student involvement and recognizes undergraduate students who excel within and beyond the classroom in three of five areas: international experience, internship, leadership, research and service.

Alumna Joins the College of Social Work in New Faculty Role

After graduating with her MSW in 1996 and her Ph.D. in 2006 from the Florida State University College of Social Work, Dr. Lisa Johnson returned in 2018 as an Assistant Teaching Professor and co-Program Coordinator for the College of Social Work at FSU Panama City.  In addition, she served as the area coordinator and faculty field liaison for the online MSW program. She returned to the College of Social Work in Tallahassee in 2020 as a Visiting Teaching Professor where she taught courses remotely due to the Pandemic.

Alumna to Lead Department of Defense Commission on Sexual Assault

The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) announced that Lynn Rosenthal (BSW, 1980) will head an independent review commission on sexual assault in the military.

To carry out President Biden’s direction, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin, III ordered the establishment of an independent 90-day review commission on sexual assault in the military, stated John Kirby, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, during a briefing.

FSU and CSW Celebrate a Successful 2021 FSU Great Give Campaign

FSU’s Great Give celebrated the 10th anniversary of the giving campaign. This year, the 24-hour campaign raised funds for Florida State academic programs, scholarships, and student activities. The campaign set a record-breaking goal of $1 million dollars.

On March 10th, the FSU community came together for this day of giving and exceeded the $1 million goal, raising $1,576,910 in twenty-four hours.
